There are many different types of dogs, and according to the American Kennel Club (AKC) standards, there are roughly 178 breeds of pet dogs worldwide. These dogs can be categorized in a variety of ways, such as by body type, function, and characteristics.

Categorized by body type

Ultra Small Dogs: Usually refers to dog breeds that are less than 25 centimeters tall and weigh no more than 4 kilograms.This type of dog breed is small and suitable for domestication, such as Chihuahua.

Small dogs: between 25 and 40 centimeters in height and weighing between 4 and 10 kilograms.   

Small dogs are popular for their moderate size and ease of breeding, such as Teddy, Pomeranian and Bichon Frise.

Medium-sized dogs: Between 41 and 60 centimeters in height and between 11 and 30 kilograms in weight.Medium-sized dogs are large enough to provide security without being too bulky, such as Huskies and Border Collies.

Large Dogs: Between 61 and 70 centimeters tall and weighing between 31 and 40 kilograms.   

Large dogs usually have a strong build and a gentle disposition, such as Golden Retrievers and Labradors.

Extra Large Dogs: Breeds that are taller than 70 centimeters and weigh more than 40 kilograms.   

These dog breeds are large in size and require a large space for activities and sufficient exercise, such as Alaskan sled dogs, Caucasian shepherds and so on.

According to the functional classification

Family dog: mainly as a family companion dog, accompanying family members and providing emotional support, such as Teddy, Golden Retriever and so on.

Toy Dogs: small in size, suitable as playthings or companion dogs, such as Chihuahua, Pomeranian and so on.

Working Dogs: with specific working ability, such as search and rescue, blind guide, shepherding, etc., such as German Shepherd, Labrador and so on.

Terriers: smaller in size, but with brave and alert character, good at hunting small animals, such as West Highland White Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier and so on.

Sheepdogs: have excellent shepherding ability, such as Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, etc.

Hunting Dogs: good at tracking and hunting prey, such as Rabbit Hounds, Foxhounds, etc.

Gun hunting dog: used to assist the hunter to shoot hunting, such as golden retriever, labrador retriever and so on.

According to the characteristics of classification

Dogs can also be categorized according to their character traits, such as smart, sticky, no hair loss, no barking, friendly, will look after the house, heat-resistant, easy to train and so on. These characteristics make different breeds of dogs present different behaviors and habits in the breeding process.

 

Introduction of common dog breeds

Teddy: small dog, small amount of food, alert and lively loved ones, no body odor, not easy to lose hair.

Golden Hair: large dogs, gentle and friendly, strong obedience, but serious hair loss, body odor.

Husky: medium-sized dogs, light body odor, love clean, face value bear, but demolition ability, easy to heat stroke.

Pomeranian: small dogs, small and lovely, lively and adaptable, but love to bark and easy to grow tear marks.

Alaskan sled dog: super-large dogs, handsome, loyal, good temper, but the amount of movement is large, dense coat prone to skin diseases.

 

In short, there are many kinds of dogs, each with its own unique size, function and characteristics. When choosing to keep a dog, you should make comprehensive considerations based on your lifestyle, living environment and personal preferences.
